4Sonora is a Madrid-based string quartet dedicated to the recovery, experimentation, and dissemination of 20th- and 21st-century repertoire, with a particular focus on Spanish and Latin American music.
Since its debut at the 14th Festival de Ensembles at Teatros del Canal (Madrid) in 2023, the ensemble has established itself as one of the most active string quartets on the Spanish contemporary music scene. 4Sonora has been ensemble-in-residence at leading Spanish festivals and concert series, including the Festival de Potries, Festival Internacional de Rafelbunyol, CIMCA, and the Madrid International Contemporary Music Festival, returning to Teatros del Canal in 2025 with a project celebrating the centenary of György Ligeti.
During the 2025/26 season, 4Sonora closed the String Quartet Series at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, presented a monographic programme devoted to composer Francisco Coll at Fundación Juan March, participated in the Musikagileak Festival (Basque Country), and gave masterclasses at Musikene, the Basque Country’s Higher School of Music.
Upcoming engagements include returns during the 2026/27 season to Teatros del Canal, Fundación Juan March, Musikene, and the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, as well as debuts at the Kuraia Festival in Bilbao, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), Espacio Turina in Seville, and the Encuentros de Pamplona.
A native of Minsk, Belarus, Elina began her musical training with Lev Kuleshov and Eduard Kuchinsky at the Belarusian State University of Music. In 2011, she moved to Madrid to pursue her undergraduate and master’s studies at the Reina Sofía School of Music under the guidance of Zakhar Bron. She has won numerous awards, including the 12th Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poland and the 27th Barcelona International Competition, and has participated in productions for RTVE and for the national radio stations of Belarus and Hungary.
As a soloist, she has performed at venues such as L’Auditori de Barcelona, the National Auditorium of Madrid, Cadogan Hall, and the National Gallery in London, and has appeared at festivals including Schleswig-Holstein, Interlaken, Schnittke, and Castleton. She has collaborated with the National Symphony Orchestra and the Belarusian Chamber Orchestra. Since 2023, she has been Assistant Concertmaster of the Orchestra and Choir of the Community of Madrid and a guest professor at the Reina Sofía School of Music Summer Camp.
Born in Kherson, Ukraine, Roman trained at the Music School No. 3 in Kherson and at the Kyiv State Lysenko Music Lyceum. He completed his undergraduate and master’s studies at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy with Professor Sergey Schott, and earned a Master’s degree in Performance at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid under Zakhar Bron. He has received awards at the Eugène Ysaÿe Competition in Belgium, the Mirecourt Competition in France, the Marie Cantagrill Competition in Saint-Girons, and the Vasco Abadjiev Competition in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Roman has performed as a soloist with ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Comunitat Valenciana, the Valencia Orchestra, the Kyiv National Chamber Orchestra, and the National Opera of Lorraine in France, and has appeared at festivals including Interlaken (Switzerland), the Ravenna Festival (Italy), and the Mute Nights Festival (Odessa). Since 2023, he has been Associate Concertmaster of the Orchestra of the Comunitat Valenciana at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía.
Alfonso began his studies in Oviedo and continued his training at the Guildhall School of Music, the Banff Centre, and the Hochschules of Basel and Frankfurt. As a fellow at Ensemble Modern, he completed the IEMA Master’s degree in Contemporary Music. He has been invited as principal violist by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Musikfabrik, Remix Ensemble, Ensemble Resonanz, Orquesta del Teatro Real de Madrid, HKNME, OSPA, ROSS, and the festival ensembles of Lucerne, Aldeburgh, Ulysses, Norfolk, and Spoleto. He has also collaborated with the London Sinfonietta, Geneva Camerata, Orquesta Nacional de España and Camerata Bern.
He received the Birmingham Chamber Music Society Prize and is co-founder of the Oviedo Contemporary Music Series. He has recorded for ArtHaus, Radio France, Radio Nacional de España, Bayerischer Rundfunk, BBC, WDR, SWR, KAIROS, and Alpha Classics. He is currently a doctoral candidate at the Complutense University of Madrid.
Awarded a PhD in Musicology (cum laude) by the University of Oviedo, Sara graduated from the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in 2012 and earned a Master’s degree in Performance from the Leopold Mozart Centre at the University of Augsburg in 2014. She has collaborated with renowned ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Asturias Symphony Orchestra, the Galicia Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville, and the Augsburger Philharmoniker, and was selected as a fellow of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
From 2014 to 2024, she served as Co-Principal Cellist of Oviedo Filarmonía and is currently a member of the Paris-based Trio Pangea, with which she is recording a cycle of albums for the Naxos label. Since 2025, Sara Chordà has been Head of the Social and Educational Department at the Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid (ORCAM).
